The Summit celebrated the 100th day of school this week!\u00a0 Many students even dressed up like they were 100 years old \u2013 complete with glasses, canes, wigs, and mustaches!<\/p>

We began our day with a 100-themed math mystery picture! Students used double digit addition to color in a 100s chart and reveal the number 100 in the mystery picture!\u00a0<\/p>

After our morning work, the grandmas and grandpas of first grade gathered on the carpet for a very exciting, 100-themed morning meeting and brain break. The 100th day is the most exciting day of the year for calendar math! We got to finally add a digit to our 100s place on the board! We also closed up our 100 block of Digiblocks, made a 100th tally mark and skip counted by 5s to 100. We discovered that, just like all numbers with a zero in the ones place, the number 100 is even because it can be split into two equal parts \u2013 50 and 50. Finally, we swapped out our 99 cents worth of coins for a $1 bill!\u00a0<\/p>

Then, we ventured over to the Kindergarten Explorers room to participate as the audience for a fashion show of Kindergarten shirts made with 100 items on them! First graders cheered them on as their younger peers practiced their best model walk on the runway!<\/p>

Next, we did a workout video related to the number 100. We had so much fun with that one!\u00a0<\/p>

After our workout, we worked on a writing prompt: \u201cIf I had $100\u2026\u201d.\u00a0 Students were interested in spending their $100 on pets, candy, a soccer shirt, toy cars, donuts, Legos and more! Some choose to give their money away or spend it on their family.<\/p>

In the afternoon, they got creative and made a picture out of the number 100! 100 turned into a kitten, a farm, bookshelves and so much more.<\/p>

We continued our learning of the number 100 with a read aloud, Jake\u2019s 100th Day of School<\/em> by Lester Laminack. In the story, the students created a 100th day of school snack. We thought that sounded like a great idea so we did the same! First graders know well by now that the number 100 is made up of ten groups of ten. We put this into action with our afternoon snack. Students counted out ten pieces of different snacks and sorted them on their snack mat paper. After they had create ten groups of ten, they had 100 pieces of yummy things to munch on and bring home!\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
