This week we began our study of Asia! Students have been learning through hands-on experiences, stories, and even from one of their own classmates!<\/p>\n

On Monday, we were so lucky to have our very own Danika share about how her family celebrates Chinese New Year. She taught us so much! Danika recited two poems in Chinese, which was such a special experience for all of us to hear. She also introduced us to a few Chinese words and phrases, and the class loved practicing them together. One of the highlights of the day was creating our own pi\u00f1atas, inspired by her family\u2019s traditions. Using small boxes and colorful tissue paper, students carefully designed and decorated their pi\u00f1atas before filling them with small goodies to take home. It was a joyful, hands-on way to connect to the celebration and learn about a meaningful family tradition from one of our classmates!<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, we traveled (through learning!) to Japan to explore the art of origami. We began by learning about the history of origami and hearing the meaningful story of the 1,000 paper cranes. Then, it was the students’ turn to try! Using printed directions and origami paper, students worked hard to follow each step. It was definitely a challenge at times, but I was so proud of their perseverance. They showed great problem-solving skills, supported one another, and celebrated their progress along the way.<\/p>\n
