This we\"\"ek, we read aloud\u00a0The Goat in the Rug.<\/em>\u00a0In the story, Geraldine, the goat, tells how Glenmae, a Navajo weaver creates a rug.\u00a0 First, Geraldine is clipped, and then her wool is spun into yarn.\u00a0 Carefully, the yarn is dyed, dried, and woven on a loom to make a beautiful rug. \u00a0After reading, students sequenced the steps taken to make the rug. \u00a0Having already completed a weaving activity in art class, we \u00a0chose try out a new technique, making water color resist rugs. \u00a0Students viewed many examples of Navajo rugs, noting and their colors and geometric designs. \u00a0We began the crayon portion today and will complete the watercolor wash on Monday. \u00a0Students can also look forward to making and eat Fry bread and building 3-dimensional hogans.<\/p>\n
