\"\"Connecting our current science topic, weather, and Valentines’ Day, first grade students enjoyed the perfect read aloud, The Day It Rained Hearts.<\/em>\u00a0In the story, Cornelia Augustus ventures out to collect the raining hearts deciding to make valentines for each of her animal friends. Recognizing how each heart is special, Cornelia thoughtfully and carefully makes a valentine for each friend. \u00a0After sharing the story, first grade students completed several corresponding activities. \u00a0First, they identified character traits. \u00a0Creating our own raining heart display, students each selected a trait and identified evidence from the text to support that trait. \u00a0Then, students completed a written response determining what they would do if it rained hearts one day. \u00a0Finally, students made a precipitation wheel, identifying and defining forms of precipitation. \u00a0This afternoon, students were eager to complete a Valentine themed word work activity and addition fact game. \u00a0They enjoyed making valentines for our neighbors at Culpepper Place, exchanging valentines with classmates, and sharing special treats for snack.<\/p>\n
