Teddy Bear Day

Today was Stuffed Animal Day at The Summit!  Second grade took it one step further by bringing teddy bears and other stuffed animals to school and use them for a variety of learning activities.

We discussed the comprehension strategy of comparing and contrasting using our stuffed animals.  This lesson included the introduction of a new graphic organizer, the venn diagram.  Working with a partner, students discovered how their stuffed animals were the same and how they were different.

We shared the classic books Corduroy and A Pocket for Corduroy and discussed the story elements of each story and the character traits of Corduroy.  Then we used our direction following skills to draw Corduroy and create a character web.

During our weekly STEM activity, we helped Corduroy find his buttons and then build towers with them!  The students were allowed one container of Playdough and as many buttons as they wanted.

One of the favorite parts of the day was partner reading with our stuffed animals!

A fun day of learning was had by everyone!
