We have already dived in by learning and practicing some of our first vocabulary words. So far we have learned:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>el sol\u00a0\u00a0<\/em>(the sun)<\/li>\n<li><em>la luna\u00a0<\/em>(the moon)<\/li>\n<li><em>mercurio <\/em>(Mercury)<\/li>\n<li><em>venus\u00a0<\/em>(Venus)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Students have already started to notice that for many of the planets, there is similar spelling between the Spanish and English words, so we have focused on the difference in pronunciation instead. They are catching on quickly!<\/p>\n<p>To keep track of all of our solar system vocabulary, students have been adding to their own personal Spanish dictionary each day in class. We add the Spanish word, the English equivalent, as well as a small drawing made by each student to go with each word. We plan to add to our list each day in Spanish class until we have a very long list of words.<\/p>\n<p>To practice our words, we have been playing some games, including <em>Mono Loco<\/em> and Around the World, which have both been very popular with our 2nd graders. I am so glad they are enthusiastic about creating their dictionaries and participating in our games.
