Newbery Book Award: Book Report and Project

Students finished up their final projects on their second book club book last week. This week, they were introduced to their next book assignment, which will be a book report and creative project on a Newbery Award Winning book. The Newbery Medal is awarded annually by the American Library Association for the most distinguished American children’s book published the previous year, and books and authors have been earning this award since the 1920s. Students spread out all the options available to them, and chose either a Newbery Medal winner (“1st Place”) or a Newbery Honor winner (“2nd Place”). The project will consist of completing a “book talk,” which will be introduced and started in class, and a creative project, which will be completed at home. Projects will be due Friday, May 6, and students will begin presentations the following week. Take a look at the guidelines here:
