Convection Current Lab

On Thursday, the students conducted their first science lab of the year.  To replicate the movement of convection currents in the Earth’s mantle, the students added drops of food coloring to a tub of water, then placed it over a heat source.  As the water began to heat and move, students got to watch the color as it traveled in circular currents.  We took this opportunity to discuss variables in experiments, make and test a hypothesis, and go over all the different parts of a science lab report.

Be sure to check Friday folders this weekend for a flyer describing the Stuffed Animal Drive which is taking place next week.  Also included is the pledge form for the Read-A-Thon.  Have a great weekend!
