Gearing up for Middle School

As the school year is approaching it’s end, fifth graders are looking forward towards middle school next year!  For the past  two weeks, middle school experts (both teachers and students) have been dropping in to discuss the differences between elementary and middle school and answer questions that our fifth graders have had.  So far, fifth graders have learned about:

  • the middle school schedule, including electives and resource hour
  • how to communicate with teachers outside of classtime
  • time management
  • methods of keeping track of assignments
  • planning ahead for and catching up from absences
  • how to handle late work
  • cell phone policy
  • lunch and recess policies

We have more guests scheduled to drop in as we continue our “Middle School Speaker Series” over the next few weeks.  Some upcoming topics include: tests and quizzes, picking seating and partners for classes, and understanding grades and teacher feedback.

The Summit Preparatory School is a fully accredited, non-religious, private school offering a full-time seated independent education for students in Springfield, Ozark, Nixa, Rogersville, and the greater Southwest Missouri area. Our preparatory school setting offers an enriching early childhood, elementary, middle school, and high school curriculum in a supportive environment. We have state of the art facilities, highly-qualified teachers and staff, and a large range of educational programming. Interested in enrolling your child? Learn more about our admissions process.
