Week of 9/26 – 9/30

It’s going to be an exciting week next week!  Picture day on Monday and Scholastic Book Fair all week long!  Here’s what the fifth grade will be working on in class:

Math: multiplying fractions and mixed numbers

Science: How does weathering and erosion shape the Earth?

Social studies: We’re starting a short unit on reading, comparing, and analyzing maps.

Spelling: A new spelling rule for this week!

Reading: Informational texts this week – we will be looking for main ideas and details, sorting out authors’ purposes, and investigating the different structures of writing.

Writing: We’re working on revising and editing our opinion essays next week.  We’ll be paying specific attention to sentence fluency by using varied sentence beginnings, lengths, and structures.
