Week of 10/3 – 10/7

Next week will bring some exciting adventures!  Here’s what the fifth grade will be up to:

Science: Weathering and erosion (including looking for some real-world examples!).  Also investigations into how the different types of mountains are formed.

Social Studies: Continuing on with our mini-unit on maps.  We’ll be looking at different kids of maps – political, physical, population, and climate.  We’ll also be staring a research project – stay tuned!

Grammar – Pronouns.  Pronouns.  Pronouns.

Math – Multiplying whole numbers by mixed numbers.

Reading – Informational texts – we’ll be looking at compare/contrast, problem/solution, and cause/effect structures.

Writing – Having moved through the entire writing process a few times slowly, repeating each step a few times to get the hang of it, students will complete one opinion essay from top to bottom, thereby stringing the whole writing process together from prompt to publishing.  With luck, we will have our first published opinion pieces next week!
