This week in art, our 5th grade students wrapped up with a fun and practical project: creating bookmark corners! We began by learning the steps to make the origami corner, and from there, the real creativity began. Each student made their own unique design using tempera cakes, markers, crayons, colored pencils, and oil pastels.
The possibilities were endless as students transformed their simple bookmark corners into works of art. Some students created cute, sidewinding sand crabs, while others took inspiration from the iconic PacMan. It was wonderful to see them explore how art can be both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
By the end of the project, the students not only had a new tool for marking the pages of a favorite book but also had the opportunity to experiment with color and design in an open-ended way. Art can serve so many purposes, and I’m thrilled to see our students continue to discover this through their creativity!
