{"id":4549,"date":"2026-01-06T13:13:21","date_gmt":"2026-01-06T19:13:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thesummitprep.org\/5th\/?p=4549"},"modified":"2026-01-06T13:13:21","modified_gmt":"2026-01-06T19:13:21","slug":"week-of-1-5-1-9","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thesummitprep.org\/5th\/2026\/01\/06\/week-of-1-5-1-9\/","title":{"rendered":"Week of 1\/5 &#8211; 1\/9"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome to 2026!\u00a0 The kids were in shock this morning when I reminded them that they would become middle schoolers this year!\u00a0 \u00a0Here&#8217;s how we&#8217;ll be ringing in the new year:<\/p>\n<p>Reading: We are continuing to work on novel studies.\u00a0 Students are moving into the second half of their novels.<\/p>\n<p>Writing: This week, we will be drafting their multi-paragraph expository essays.<\/p>\n<p>Language Study: It&#8217;s a grammar week.\u00a0 We are focusing on sentences.\u00a0 We will learn about fixing sentence fragments and run-ons.\u00a0 We will also practice making compound and complex sentences.<\/p>\n<p>Social Studies: We will learn about Europe in the 1400s.\u00a0 Our focus is on what changes were going on around the world that led to Europeans learning about and wanting to explore the American continents.<\/p>\n<p>Science:\u00a0 Our learning about electricity continues.\u00a0 We will learn about how electric current is generated.<\/p>\n<p>Math:\u00a0 This week we will do a bit of a review of all concepts we have learned this year.\u00a0 Students will take a summary assessment on Friday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome to 2026!\u00a0 The kids were in shock this morning when I reminded them that they would become middle schoolers this year!\u00a0 \u00a0Here&#8217;s how we&#8217;ll be ringing in the new year: Reading: We are continuing to work on novel studies.\u00a0 Students are moving into the second half of their novels.
