Happy Home Stretch Holiday!\u00a0 It’s hard to believe we’ve already made it here!\u00a0 It’s been a busy week!\u00a0 Here’s what we’ve been working on in the 5th grade classroom:<\/p>\n
Reading: Students continue to work through their novels.<\/p>\n
Writing: We took the opportunity to reconsider the novel Fatty Legs<\/em> this week.\u00a0 We had to dig deep into our memories as we read this book back in October!\u00a0 As we dove into learning about writing personal narratives, we looked at how the author of Fatty Legs<\/em> took a real life story and translated it to writing by focusing on the elements of narratives: character, setting, plot, conflict, and theme.\u00a0 Students choose a personal story of their own and did some close thinking about how they could develop a written narrative by developing those elements.<\/p>\n Social Studies: We asked the question today: what is a country?\u00a0 Students did some close reading with case studies to think about what it takes to make a country.<\/p>\n Science: Students continued to work on their Cell Posters.<\/p>\n Math: We learned about positive and negative numbers this week and applied that learning to our studies of coordinate graphs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Happy Home Stretch Holiday!\u00a0 It’s hard to believe we’ve already made it here!\u00a0 It’s been a busy week!\u00a0 Here’s what we’ve been working on in the 5th grade classroom: Reading: Students continue to work through their novels.
