The Mitten

Last Thursday we did a few activities based around the book The Mitten. The Mitten is one of my favorite books to read each winter. It is about a grandma that knits a mitten for her grandson, Nicky. Nicky drops his mitten in the snow and different animals snuggle in to get warm. After we first read the book, we put the animals on the board in order that they went into the mitten. We practiced using 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.. Later in the day we acted out the parts of each animal. The big tablecloth was our pretend mitten. The kids took turns being the animals going into the mitten as I read the story. At the end the little mouse tickles the bear’s nose and he sneezes. The animals fly out of the mitten and that’s what the kids did when our bear sneezed. It was really fun!!
