Early Learners Yoga

We have had a wonderful start to the year in yoga.  Your children are such blessings and I enjoy teaching them so much. They bring me joy every Friday when we are together.

I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself and tell you about EL yoga.  I’m Dulsey, and the kids call me Miss D.   In yoga, we focus on several highlights each week.  I start with a mindfulness question or worksheet.  For example, one day I asked the kids about how they were feeling. I gave them three choices, happy or excited, sad or tired, or something else.  By asking questions like this, it helps the students to not only identity how they are feeling but be able to articulate it better to a teacher, adult or a fellow student.

Next, we have a “time-in” breath.  So far, we have covered feeling breath, dolphin breath, elephant trunk breath, and single nostril breathing.  Ask your child if they can show you some of them.  Making breath work fun helps them call to mind the breath in times of stress or anxiety.

Our yoga postures in early learners are foundational postures and focus on kid friendly named postures like shark, turtle, frog, and our stretches include the pizza forward fold, and the itsy bitsy spider legs.

This past Friday, we worked on balance.  To help with this message, I brought in rocks and had the kids balance them.  Everyone quickly learned that balance is fun but challenging.  They really enjoyed this exercise.

Feel free to reach out to me if you have questions about early learners yoga.
