Thursday Sept. 22nd in Early Learners

Today we ended our lessons on the letter E by reading the story Elmer the Patchwork Elephant. Elmer was ashamed of how colorful he was.  All of the other elephants were the same color grey.  But even though Elmer did not like that he looked different, his friends loved his personality!  Elmer could always make them laugh.  In this story we learned that everyone is unique and there’s no point trying to disguise your true self.
Check in with your child and ask, “how did Elmer cover up his bright colors?”
“How did Elmer’s friends discover that the new elephant in the group was actually Elmer?”
Today, we had a visit from a veterinarian!  One of the mom’s in our blue room came to our school today and brought her dog ‘June’.  ‘June’ is a beautiful, very well mannered dog.  The veterinarian explained how she is a doctor to all kinds of animals and she spoke about some of the ways she helps animals to have a healthy life!  She also teaches others how to be veterinarians!  She brought her stethoscope and allowed the children to listen to the dog’s heartbeat.
We have had a wonderful time learning about friends at home, friends in our classroom, friends at the Summit, and friends in our community.  Our Early Learners have enjoyed the people they have met and I think they have become more confident and more connected to the people they see each day.
Today we talked about how, even at their young age, they can communicate with the people they know through letters!  They loved drawing pictures and giving me the message they wanted to share in their letters.
When they completed their pictures, we placed them in an envelope (it starts with E!), and placed a stamp on it.  We learned what a postal worker is and how they deliver the mail.
So, of course our Early Learners became postal workers!!  With their very own mail bag, they walked down to the front desk and mailed their letters in our mailbox!!  So exciting!!
