Social Studies Update

Students have been learning about major Asian nations in the late traditional era. This time period sees China’s last two dynasties, the Ming and the Qing. We’ve talked extensively about the way China interacted with surrounding regions and exercised its power. We’ve also been practicing geography of the region so that we can understand certain patterns of interaction. After learning about China, we began a study of Japan in the Edo period and will branch into the Tokugawa Era on Monday. Throughout, we’ve been utilizing primary sources to better understand things from the ground level from the time period we’re studying. Students are continuing to practice weaving primary sources into their essays as strong evidence, and class discussions continue to grow in excellence as they practice these skills.
