Social Studies Update

High school students have completed their study of East Asia up to the 19th century and are now studying the last major Islamic empires in preparation for an exam on Tuesday, December 10th. Students will again be assessed using essay questions, asking them to demonstrate their ability to think critically and respond to questions, as well as their ability to weave arguments together utilizing evidence from materials studied in class. We’ve covered a great number of primary sources as we’ve studied these Asian cultures and empires, so students should have a full bank of resources to utilize in formulating their arguments. They’ll also be assessed on their knowledge of Asian geography.

Students in modern history are working on completing and presenting their final research topics. It’s been a fantastic semester of learning, as each student has had opportunities to explore their personal areas of interest while making compelling arguments for their peers to understand key people and events. Each student has shown progress in research and presentation skills, while some have chosen to additionally strengthen their abilities of writing persuasive essays and creating compelling videos.
