During the author study segment, we examine the author&#8217;s inspirations, writing journey, and what influenced their unique style. These studies are a fun way to introduce young students to literature and storytelling, encouraging them to look beyond the story and learn about the author\u2019s ideas and creative process. In August, we are focusing on Patty Lovell and have learned that she accidentally wrote her first book, &#8220;Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon,&#8221; in just five minutes, not expecting it to become so popular. After reading the book, students made a craft related to its theme: Molly Lou Melon&#8217;s mother teaches her to use her voice for good\u2014to stand up for what&#8217;s right, even when it&#8217;s difficult. The kindergartners realized that everyone is different and special in their own ways. For the extension activity, students drew on a five-petaled flower, illustrating something about themselves in each petal. These flowers became a charming reminder of our classroom\u2019s diversity. As August comes to an end, we will be concluding our author study on Ms. Lovell.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Each month, kindergarteners explore a different author.
