Math Bags

Kindergarten students were introduced to “math bags” earlier this week. Each math bag contains a skill-based math activity that can be completed alone or with a friend.  Many of the bags currently contain counting and numeral recognition based games.  As we progress throughout the year, activities will be added related to new mathematical concepts including shapes, time, coins, and more.  After a student completes their math assignment for the day, they are welcome to visit the “math bag” drawers and choose an activity to keep the learning going!  All students learn at different paces and this allows each student to take their time on their assignments, conference with a teacher as needed, or dig a little deeper with an extension activity.  I am excited to see these bags at work throughout the school year!  Be sure to ask your Kinder to share about the bags they experienced this week, as well as the bags they are most looking forward to learning with.
