Sixth Grade
Sixth grade students are exploring great and terrible leaders throughout history. Provided with a list of leaders from the 16th through 20th centuries, students were able to choose one of interest to research. This project has them practicing their skills of research, note-taking, evidence-gathering, and thesis creation, as well as asking them to stretch their creative muscles through presentations.
Seventh/Eighth Grade
Seventh and eighth grade students are currently exploring state-building in early modern Europe. This study has been particularly relevant, as it covers the rise of Russia. Students have been engaged in discussions about issues with various government styles and applying their knowledge from the Enlightenment to the problems raging in Europe during this period.
Political Science
Students in political science recently completed research projects covering political socialization, public opinion, and the media. They each had a unique take on the topic of their choice, practicing a variety of skills including introspection and creative thinking, research, and problem-solving. Most recently, the class discussed SPS school board candidates and talked about the importance of local elections. Students will be exploring the history of American political ideologies in the next weeks and completing research projects on a party of their choice.
