Math Fundamentals

This week students received feedback on their second Knowledge Check. KC 2 assessed the learning target of finding the area of triangles. We finished up our work with surface area and nets. Next week, students will design tents to apply their knowledge. Friday will be Knowledge Check #3 upon which students will get the chance to demonstrate their ability to find surface area.

Integrated Math

After learning that transformed figures retain their length and angle measurements, students applied this learning to parallel lines and transversals. After a review of supplementary and complementary angles, they were able to develop the theorem that vertical angles are congruent. Once this was established, they were ready to put it all together to determine missing angle measurements in angles formed by parallel lines and transversals. Working together in groups on progressively more difficult problems, students made observations and hypothesis about angle relationships and then demonstrated this learning individually.

Algebra 1

Statistical deviation has been the focus of study over the past week in Algebra 1. Students learned what it means and how it can be applied in real life situations. They calculated it by hand with a data set as well as with technology. In making changes to a data set, students were able to deepen their understanding of how it changes and what it reveals. Students put this information together with their other tools to measure center and variability in a knowledge check.
