Colonial Trading and Economy

Middle school historians have been studying the economy of the British colonies in America. As part of this study, we’ve learned about mercantilism and protectionist trade policies. The Tea Act provides excellent insight to these policies, so we decided to have a tea party as a class. 🙂

Eighth grade was first up this morning. In the midst of our tea party, we read a primary source about the Boston Tea Party, and students were able to learn some details about this key moment in colonial history.

Several students contributed treats to the tea party.

One student brought in cookies made from a 100+ year-old family recipe! They were delicious.

Our whole group enjoying the party.
