This Week in Social Studies

It’s so wonderful to have students back in the building and our classrooms this week!

In sixth grade, students wrapped up their learning of Reconstruction and are moving into the Wild West for the remainder of the week. There are lots of fun opportunities for learning with this topic, and I’m excited to explore it with them.

Seventh and eighth grade students are examining Reconstruction and the needs of people in the South after the war’s conclusion. Yesterday we did some work connecting Reconstruction to their assignment in Language Arts – thinking about the lives of Americans in the late 19th century. Students had strong ideas for how to rebuild the South post-war, and for the rest of the week, we’ll examine the effectiveness of government tactics during this era.
