Using those rules they then developed proposals for the meaning of rational exponents. Figuring out that they mean to both take a root and then raise to a power (or vice versa) was our end result. Students then spent some time learning how to input these operations correctly into a calculator before testing their knowledge in IXL and Kahoots.
