7th and 8th grade have been working on a summative project for their short story unit. As we read “Harrison Bergeron” which critiques the idea that people can be truly equal, we discussed the difference between equality and equity and how we can work to our own strengths. To that end, the assignment will be unique to each student. They were able to choose whatever path they wanted to take in order to demonstrate their knowledge. I have students working on slide shows, art pieces, poetry collections, and much more! Presentations will begin this coming Wednesday and I have no doubt they they will be as impressive as they are creative.<\/p>\n
6th grade continues their work on their short story unit. They have been reading the works of Ray Bradbury with “The Veldt” and “All Summer in a Day,” both of which are remarkably prescient as they contain things that look familiar today. Bradbury was clearly ahead of his time which allows us to have great discussions about the nature of Science Fiction. Does art imitate life? Or is it the other way around? Were the science fiction greats of the mid 20th century self fulfilling prophets? I suppose time will tell. In the mean time, however, they are exploring some great works of fiction and having great philosophical discussions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
