In their reviews, they will be analyzing two elements of the story, incorporating one outside source and the story itself as evidence to support their opinions, and describing what audiences would like (or dislike) the story.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To engage with your student, you could ask them:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">what short story they are doing their project on,<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">why they like\/dislike the story (beyond it being the shortest one we read!),\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">what elements of the story they are reviewing, and<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">what adjectives they are using to avoid using \u201clike\u201d or \u201cdislike\u201d in their writing.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Because we have a shorter week due to Fall Break on Thursday and Friday as well as no classes on Monday for Parent-Teacher Conferences, we will continue working on this review next week as we further discuss and practice the research and citation requirements.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We all have opinions, and students are being encouraged to share theirs about one of the short stories we\u2019ve read in the form of a 4-5 paragraph review.
