Last week students built something to launch projectiles.  These included some great catapults, as well as some interesting ballistas.  Students are now working to better understand the motion of the projectiles.  We are working this week to understand the different between displacement and distance traveled.  We will then move on to speed and velocity, and finally acceleration will be analyzed. All of this is being introduced first in terms of one-dimensional motion.  Ultimately, projectile motion will be analyzed in terms of the vertical and horizontal dimensions.  The work on projectile motion is a great way of integrating math and science to give students a deep understanding of one of the more exciting and universal concepts in physics.
