Summit Journalism Activities Students Make First Impression on Social Media

Did you see it? Did you like it? Did you share it? We’re talking about the social media posts from our very own Summit high schoolers, of course.

Friday marked the inaugural class of the High School elective: Journalism Activities. Throughout the academic year, these students will work on a variety of projects related to modern journalism: from social media takeovers to blog posts, interviews to podcasts, editorials to yearbook layout. The goal is to expand their journalism skills, increase their reporting confidence, and produce their own news-worthy pieces.

Class started with their first assignment: explore The Summit, take a snapshot of something happening on campus, and write a 1-2 sentence caption that will capture the attention of the reader and make them want to learn more. All the photos were posted on Summit’s Instagram & Facebook Page Friday (with photo credit to the corresponding high schooler). Next class we’ll review the analytics and analyze the response of each post.
