Integrated Math Update from Mrs. B

7/8 Integrated Math

This week in Integrated Math, 7th and 8th graders are connecting two-dimensional and three-dimensional worlds by slicing clay. First, students are to form geometric solids with clay and use string to slice the clay in multiple ways, observe the shapes that are formed on the sliced faces, and record their findings. Once students have developed “rules” for how to create specific shapes by slicing the figures in certain ways, they will begin calculating the area of the sliced faces. Lastly, we will connect area of the sliced faces to surface area and volume of prisms, cones, pyramids, and spheres.
