7/8 Integrated Math
This week in Integrated Math has been all about scale! Students first explored scale drawings of animals to make inferences about their size, followed by using what they learned about scale and proportionality to fix inaccurate scale drawings of fish. To wrap up the week, students then created their own scale drawings of objects of their choosing using their own scales. Next week will kick off by challenging the students to interpret the scale drawings of their peers to accurately determine the real-life size of the scaled objects. After being completely immersed in visual representations of scale, scale drawings, and proportions, students will be ready to tackle proportional relationships from an abstract and algebraic perspective.
Algebra 2
In Algebra 2, students have been reviewing systems of two equations and what it means to find a solution to a system both graphically and algebraically. After reviewing how to solve systems of two equations, we will study real-world applications of systems in both two and three variables.
Computer Science Principles
Students in Computer Science Principles have recently learned about the history of the Internet as well as how the Internet works. To show what they’ve learned, students wrote a two-minute “flash talk” on major issues regarding the Internet and how it affects society, such as net neutrality, Internet censorship, and how protocols are vulnerable to hacks. Next week, select students have volunteered to present their flash talks to their peers in the Upper School and host a short discussion on each issue.
