Sixth Grade Curiosity

Sixth grade students have been diligently preparing for their upcoming geography quiz on Thursday. They are to locate a number of countries on several maps, each relevant to the history we have discussed this year. One student yesterday had a great question to ask as he studied: where do these borders come from?

This question led into a great class discussion and lovely display of students’ critical thinking skills. We took it to the board and created a list of all the ways countries might get their shapes, from geography, language, religion, wars, and more. Sixth grade students are wonderful about asking good questions and genuinely caring about the answers. Their participation in these discussions shows the power of their curiosity and application of knowledge.
