February’s Frozen Frenzy Snow Day

Good morning,

I hope this February snow day finds you at home, safe and warm, sipping hot cocoa with marshmallows! Listed below, are a few fun activities the children will enjoy using everyday items in your home.

Fort Building

Children love fort building. It encourages creativity, and helps them develop innovative solutions to problem solve. Throw in a few pillows, some books and couple flashlights. They will make memories while using their imagination, role-playing and cooperating.

Salt Tray Writing

Writing letters and numbers in salt has been the children’s’ favorite activity the last few weeks at school. I have also used cookie sprinkles, glitter and pudding. They could write with their finger, a paintbrush or chop sticks. It helps children practice letter and number formation by providing a tactile experience which is fantastic for kinesthetic learners. It is helpful to have a example for the child to follow-magazine, cookbooks, etc.

Muffin Tin Sorting

Sorting items into a muffin tin helps your child learn problem solving skills. Sorting objects can be found every where! Craft pom poms, pasta, buttons, socks, lids or old keys…just to name a few! This is a marvelous way to extend mathematical thinking and vocabulary using words related to shape, size and measure-more, less, bigger, smaller, wider, thinner, etc.

I hope you enjoy your snow day!
