We may be snowed in for a few days with this storm!!! Here’ s few activities you can use with your preschooler involving SNOW!
Snow can provide hours of creativity and fun! Why not bring it inside?!? Use big pots or storage containers and pack it down to make it last longer. Better yet-put mounds of snow in the tub! Throw a tablecloth underneath to catch any snow that falls out during play.
Make a snow kitchen! Add plastic measuring cups, utensils, pans and bowls. Let the kiddos scoop it with spoons into measuring cups. When it melts add a funnel and eye droppers. The children will be strengthening fine motor skills while being entertained. Clean up is quick and easy.
Looking for a STEM activity? Try this challenge of making snowflakes using marshmallows and toothpicks. This creative activity is a wonderful way to learn about shapes, engineering skills, and following a pattern. You can even download templates from Pinterest.
Only have big marshmallows? Try marshmallow painting. It requires a few inexpensive items and is quick and easy to setup. Kids love the process and can explore printing with this squishy medium.
The following items are needed:
Large marshmallowsSomething to poke into the marshmallows-craft sticks, chopsticks, or small wooden dowels
Tempera paint
Small, bowls, cupcake holders or pie tins
Paper
Tablecloth, old shower curtain or sheet to protect the work surface
First, insert the sticks into the marshmallows. Label your child’s paper with their name. Remind them marshmallows covered in paint at are not for eating. Maybe offer a snack time later! 🙂 Next, CREATE! There are no right and wrong ways to experiment with stamping, squishing and mixing colors.
