In Spelling/Phonics, we have begun talking about digraphs! “What is a digraph?” A digraph is when two letters combine to make one sound. This is different from the consonant blends we have been doing because each individual sound is still heard in the blend. In a digraph, it changes the sound each letter makes when they are next to each other in a word. Check out the beginning of our anchor chart for digraphs! Students really got creative with their ideas for what words start with ‘Ch’. Next digraphs to come up are: sh, th, wh, and ph. (The Digraph family names include Charlie, Theo, Shane, Whitney, and Phoebe)
After generating a list of ‘ch’ words (which were also part of our spelling lists!), we made a paper chain from blue and yellow strips, The Summit colors 
. Students wrote 5 ‘ch’ words of their choice on the strips. After everyone’s chain was complete, we combined all the chains to make a giant class paper chain! Then, students chose where they wanted to display our hard work and the Calm Corner got the most votes.
