Muffins n’ Math!

This morning third graders called on their knowledge of fractions and measurement by baking chocolate chip muffins! They practiced by:

  • Putting measuring cups and spoons in order from smallest to biggest (the bigger the denominator, the smaller the amount!)
  • Comparing two containers that hold the same amount but are a different shape/height
  • Doubling the recipe, figuring out at 1 1/4 cups doubled is equivalent to 2 1/2 cups
  • Proving that 1/2 and 2/4 are equivalent fractions by measuring water
  • Figuring out how many muffins each student may have by dividing
  • Identifying the number of ml in a cup/tbs/tsp

They said it was the best math class ever, I can’t disagree!
