Math – Place Value

We’ve had a busy and exciting start to math this year! This week, students started their initial math assessments. These will help us measure growth from the beginning of the year all the way through the end.

We also began our first math unit, which focuses on reviewing key second-grade concepts as we build a strong foundation for new third-grade skills. Students practiced place value using base-ten blocks and number discs, exploring how numbers are built from ones, tens, hundreds, and thousands. For example, they learned to see 500 as 50 tens, and they practiced writing numbers in expanded form (like 563 = 500 + 60 + 3).

Looking ahead to next week, we will continue working with place value. Students will practice comparing and ordering numbers, placing numbers on number lines, and looking for number patterns by counting forward and backward by tens, hundreds, and thousands.

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend!
