3rd Grade Yoga

Welcome back! I hope you had a restful, meaningful holiday break.

Our theme this week was superpowers. I asked each student to name one of their superpowers. This could be anything that they felt they were really good at. Student answers varied, but some examples were listening, running, soccer and kindness.

We learned dolphin breathing this week. This is an energetic breath. Students rested their hands on top of their head as they inhaled. As they exhaled, they pretended to have a blow hole and released the air from their head. Most students found this fun, energizing and did great with it.

Our movement sequence this week included single leg stretching, butterfly, crescent lunges into airplane and more. I taught the students a new pose today. After we practiced airplane pose, we transitioned into warrior 2. We then bound our hands behind our backs and tried airplane pose again. It is called toppling tree pose. The kids get very focused when I give them  new poses, especially ones that are a challenge. I love watching them expand their practice. I encourage students to try new things, when they feel comfortable, but they also know they never have to try something if they aren’t ready.
