During the past few weeks, the kindergarteners have been learning a “Doubles Rap.” These students have learned the song and motions so that they could really get into the music video. Memorizing and understanding math facts is crucial for developing number sense as well as helping students build the foundation for higher-level math concepts.
Doubles memory games have challenged their thinking, while songs and dances have helped bring math to life in a whole new way. The “Doubles Rap” didn’t just allow students to learn the words—the added motions gave students a fully immersive experience. It’s been incredible to watch their confidence grow as they combine music, movement, and math! Building fluency with basic math facts is an important step in developing strong number sense and preparing for more advanced concepts down the road. When students can quickly recall doubles facts, it helps them become more confident and efficient problem-solvers.
Want to keep the learning going at home? Ask your child to perform the Doubles Rap for you! Practicing together is a fun way to reinforce what they’ve learned and celebrate their growing math skills.
