COINS

Previously, students explored the world of coins in a fun and hands-on way! We began by learning about the different coins we use every day, including how much each one is worth. We also took a closer look at who is featured on each coin and what designs appear on the back, which helped us understand a bit of history along the way.

To make our learning more interactive, we completed a coin rubbing activity. Using crayons and paper, we carefully placed coins underneath and revealed their details by rubbing over them. This was a great way to notice the small features we might not usually see.

We also practiced using a classroom “cashier” activity, where we worked on combining different coins to make specific amounts. This helped us build confidence in counting money and understanding how coins work together.

To wrap up our unit, we got creative by making piggy banks out of recycled plastic water bottles. Using construction paper and craft supplies, we designed and decorated our own unique banks. It was a fun way to connect our learning to real life and encourage saving money!
