Blends!

Blends help children transition from knowing isolated letter sounds to reading whole words with ease. They require students to hear each consonant sound and merge them without inserting extra vowels — a key developmental leap in phonics. Students were either given an ‘l’ or another consonant. They were to find their ‘match’ to complete their blend. Following this activity, they were to sit with their partner and generate a list of words that begin with their blend. They enjoyed it very much!
