Doubles and Half Facts

This week in math we are focusing heavily on learning our addition doubles facts and subtraction half facts.  An addition doubles fact is a fact that repeats the same addend. The sum of a doubles fact is always even.  A subtraction half fact is a fact in which the subtrahend matches the difference.  Using manipulatives, first graders are practicing combining and separating groups of the same number.  Working with flashcards, songs, poems, fact families, and games allows students to reinforce and apply their understanding of these strategies.  The Doubles Rap and Doubles Fact Poems included below are just a few resources we will use to help us learn our doubles and half facts.
