We had such an eventful day on Tuesday! We started the morning with many family members visiting our classroom for Grandfriends Day. First graders used their measuring skills (one of our recently learned math skills!) to create a craft with their grandfriend. They worked together to measure the length of each student’s arm span and create a “take home hug”. The “take home hugs” included a photo of the child (missing teeth and all!), a strip of paper their exact arm length, and tracings of their hands. When students are older, grandfriends will be able to look back and see just how little their child’s hugs were back in first grade! Students and their special visitors also checked out some fun stations around the building including Spanish BINGO in the backyard, the student art show, STEM exploration and demonstration, a bake sale, photo booth and the Book Fair!
In the evening, students had their Spring Concert at The Gillioz theater in downtown Springfield. Students did so wonderfully showing off what they had learned in music class this year while singing some multicultural songs! Then, we got to watch the older students rock out! It was so neat to see students of all ages performing!
Thank you so much to the grandfriends, parents and siblings who have supported Summit students all year!
