In keeping with our emphasis on community, The Summit will be hosting a Giving Tree in the lobby. We will be collecting items for a group of homeless children at Boyd Elementary School. We are adopting 46 students, many who live in the Missouri Hotel. The school nurse at Boyd gave some suggestions for items that are needed:
- First on the list was undergarments.
- Next on the list are socks and shoes. Some children in the school are still wearing their summer flip flops to school. We are asking for new, or gently used shoes in a ziplock bag and socks to fit size 6X-12.
- We have already started a coat drive and will deliver the coats to Glo cleaners before delivery.
- We will also be collecting new and gently used jeans
- Additionally, money or gift cards would be greatly appreciated. We will have a place at the front desk for coins, gift cards or bills.
- Ultimately, every child dreams of a new toy this time of year and we will be accepting toys appropriate for elementary age children. It would be fabulous if we could provide all 46 children with a new toy! Some suggestions are dolls, balls, puzzles, coloring or drawing books with crayons or pencils, legos, jump ropes, and stuffed animals.
- Please wrap the toys and indicate if it’s for a boy or girl and deliver to The Summit by December 13. Monetary donations and gift cards should be delivered to The Summit by December 16.
Thank you for helping children within our own community and for showing them they have not been forgotten!
