After months of experimenting with different systems, schedules, routines, and procedures, we’ve finally hit our stride! Since returning from Winter Break, students are focused, organized, and making great progress. Thank you for your patience and continued support as I’ve tested, tried, investigated, and experimented to find what works best for us.
Our most tremendous success has been in reading. As students move through different reading spaces and experiences, they’re developing stamina and responsibility and making thoughtful choices as readers. It’s exciting to see them already invested and taking ownership of their reading!
Each day, students rotate through five rounds: Table Time, Write About Reading, Spelling, Word Work, and Author Study. You can reinforce these activities at home by discussing them with your child.
One of the highlights so far has been Author Study. Students are beginning to recognize familiar writing styles and themes, making connections across texts, and talking like real readers: “This reminds me of…” and “I notice the author likes to…”
Table Time provides an opportunity for students to read with me in small groups and at their level. During Write About Reading, students write about what we’ve discussed at the table.
To keep the momentum going at home, please support your sensational second grader by regularly checking their Practice Pockets. Your involvement helps them stay confident and enthusiastic about their learning journey!
