Literacy Centers are a foundational component of our classroom, providing structured opportunities for students to develop and apply essential reading and writing skills in a purposeful, hands-on environment. During this time, students rotate through a series of targeted stations designed to address a range of instructional needs. At the teacher table, small group instruction allows for differentiated reading practice using texts at each student’s instructional level, with a focus on phonics, fluency, and comprehension strategies. In handwriting, students are developing cursive skills to support fine motor development and overall writing proficiency. Literacy games reinforce the weekly spelling patterns through engaging, skill-based practice, while the word work station encourages students to build, manipulate, and read words in a variety of ways to deepen their understanding of spelling patterns and word structure. Collectively, these centers support differentiated instruction, foster student independence, and promote continued growth in literacy development.
