LAD Fair is a writing and art competition for students in kindergarten through grade 12. Students from schools all across Southwest Missouri compete each year, with more than 60 different schools entering this year’s competition. The Summit has been successful members of this competition for several years.
Writing entries are divided into many categories. Many of the categories are too complicated for young writers. As second graders, we create entries in categories that we have focused on during the school year. Some examples are personal narratives, opinion writing, graphic stories/comic books, original books with illustrations, many types of poetry and autobiographies, just to name a few. Click on this link to view all the categories and an explanation of each.
All LAD events for 2021 will be held virtually this year. This is quite a departure from previous years. In the past, we have produced our writing entries, made hard copies, and organized them by categories Then delivered them by hand to the LAD Fair committee, where they judge each entry to determine the winning pieces.
The second grade has worked very hard on their entries, it has been our main focus this week. We have approximately 50 entries in several different categories. They have done an amazing job staying on task and accomplishing our projects to the best of our ability. Take a look at this document from LAD Fair to understand the rules and gain more information about the process.
Students worked so hard following the steps of the writing process, author’s crafts and focusing on conventions! We will celebrate their hard work when the results are in!
