We began the process of learning the cursive alphabet this week.  Students have been looking forward to it the entire school year and are quite excited.  Our focus in second grade is learning to form the individual letters, connecting the letters properly and being able to read cursive handwriting.  Like letters are introduced together to help students make connections so they are not learning the letters in isolation.  Many schools are forgoing the teaching of cursive, but there are many postives to the process that need to be considered.  Check out this article on the benefits of cursive handwriting.
