As part of our writing work, students have been strengthening their ability to write with descriptive detail. Our goal is to help them move beyond simple statements and instead paint a clear picture for the reader using specific words and vivid language. This kind of writing supports both creativity and clarity. It also helps students organize their thinking and communicate their understanding more effectively.  Several students were finished with their initial drafts with the prompt to describe a place- real or imaginary, and took the opportunity to share their writing on the Author’s Chair.  Descriptive writing is an important building block for all future writing, and we are excited to see students growing in their ability to express their ideas clearly and thoughtfully.

You can support this work at home by:

• Asking your child to “add one more detail” when they explain something

• Encouraging them to describe an object in your home using three strong adjectives

• Playing a quick game where you describe something and they guess what/where it is

REMINDER: Plastic Free Lunch — Friday, March 6

• Friday, March 6th will be a PLASTIC FREE LUNCH DAY at  Summit Prep!
• The school catering will still be pizza from Dominos, which has NO PLASTIC! (Paper plates will be used).
• If your child brings their lunch from home, please try to avoid single-use plastics for this special day.
• We will be collecting all plastic during lunch then counting and comparing the totals to our previous lunch audit to see how much less plastic we used! Thank you for helping to make this day meaningful!

EXCITING: Free Tree Opportunity

Mrs. Whitney Kelley (Upper School Faculty) visited our class today to read This Is the Tree We Planted  and share information about the Free Tree program through Neighborhood Forest. More information will come home in Friday Folders this week!
